The Big Three automakers in the United States have been criticized over the years for a lack of foresight on green vehicles. General Motors is hoping to not only ease those criticisms but take a big step toward hybrid development by creating its own electric motors. The automaker announced last week that it will be the first of the Big Three to build electric motors within its own facilities. The first electric motors from GM will hit the streets in 2013 as part of an anticipated rollout of hybrid drive models.

This latest step by GM toward cleaner drive ...

The General Motors display at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit was less robust than in past years. GM only recently emerged from bankruptcy and needed to sell off and discontinue some of its subsidiaries to stay afloat. The leaner automaker is hoping that Cadillac, Buick, GMC and Chevrolet can evolve into leaders in innovative auto technology over the next decade. Cadillac led the way for GM at the 2010 NAIAS with its XTS Platinum Concept plug-in hybrid sedan. The XTS Platinum plug-in hybrid builds ...

The streamlined General Motors appears to be focusing a bit more on green technologies rather than the same ...

German automaker Opel’s future has appeared murky recently as parent firm General Motors struggles to stay alive. The company showed confidence in its long-term survival by unveiling five liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) models last week to be released in the European market. Opel will produce its Zafira, Astra, Meriva and two versions of its Corsa supermini powered with gas/LPG systems. Each model will feature a fuel switch to change from LPG to gas power and back with one push of a button.
