The purpose of the Renewable Energy Rodeo and Symposium was to find sustainable products for energy infrastructure, generation and propulsion. The Santa Rosa-based ZAP Vehicles showcased a trio of electric vehicles that could be useful to the U.S. Army. The Zaptruck XL was presented as a viable option for Army bases in need of short-range cargo transfers. This all-electric truck can carry up to 1,900 pounds of cargo in a convertible truck bed. ZAP Vehicles notes that the Zaptruck XL can travel up to 25 miles per hour for a maximum range of 30 miles.
The Zapvan Shuttle would be used by military installations for quick personnel transportation. This four-seat EV operates on a 72 volt AC motor and an AGM lead-acid battery. ZAP Vehicles designed the Zapvan Shuttle with solar panels to power air conditioning and other auxiliary systems. This battery-powered shuttle can travel up to 25 miles per hour at a range of 40 miles. The Zapvan Shuttle is also equipped with a rapid-charge feature that allows for partial recharging in less than 20 minutes.
The final entrant by ZAP at the Renewable Energy Rodeo and Symposium was the Zap Dude ATV. This off-road vehicle is priced from $5,495. The Zap Dude ATV has a top speed of 25 miles per hour with a maximum range of 25 miles. ZAP Vehicles pitched the Zap Dude ATV as the perfect vehicle for security and maintenance personnel working routes around the base. The U.S. Armed Forces and the federal government can take steps toward reducing fuel consumption by ordering from ZAP Vehicles. With such lucrative clients, ZAP Vehicles will have the capital needed to break out of neighborhood electric vehicles and into highway-ready products.
